Care and wellbeing at The Somerset

Meet our residents Anita Roth-Kappeler and Peter Finger

Taking advantage of The Somerset Lifestyle and Retirement Village’s well-received willingness to adapt to clients’ needs when designing and building new homes, Swiss nationals Peter Finger and Anita Roth-Kappeler’s dream Freehold retirement home was completed. Their must-haves revolved around an underground wine cellar, storage, and spacious undercover parking for their much-used and adored offroad camper in their very own camper garage. Jane, Dion, and the designers came up with the perfect solution: their new home was built over two plots on different levels.

Retired Swiss butcher Peter and his partner, Anita, first visited South Africa in 2009 after a 4-month tour around South Africa and adjoining countries in a motorhome. They loved it so much that they decided to retire here. Having traveled to 78 countries worldwide, they thoroughly studied the whole planet before deciding Cape Town was where they wanted to spend the rest of their lives. They first rented a home in Atlantic Beach, Melkbosstrand, for a year while they searched for the perfect location. A big attraction was to be near wine farms (Peter loves his wine) and mountains to remind them of Switzerland, both of which Somerset West has in abundance. And they love walking on the beach, so Strand Beach, one of the most beautiful in the Western Cape, was also a happy discovery.

Recently, they retrieved their furniture from their storage unit and moved into their new home. One thing they did this year was to stay in Cape Town during the winter to see what it was like. You would think, being Swiss, they’d be used to the cold, but they decided from now on, it’s June, July, and August back in Europe or touring around Africa with their camper. They love to camp, and what better place to do that than in South Africa and surrounding countries? They particularly loved Namibia, but other favorites include the Karoo, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.

We’ve been sharing the journey of their stunning freehold home coming to life, and the moment has finally arrived! A HUGE thank you to our incredible builders at Westacre Homes for their hard work in bringing this vision to reality. Today, we handed over the keys to Peter and Anita. Welcome to The Somerset! Here’s to a future filled with beautiful memories in your new home!

Having the time of our lives at The Somerset

Here at The Somerset in Somerset West, Feedem knows that “you can dance, you can jive, but everyone will be having the time of their lives.” So, they decided to host an Abba-themed Happy Hour. Our residents dressed up to the nines and they didn’t have to look out for a place to go where they play the right music and getting in the swing, as our very own Clubhouse ticked all the boxes!
