Navigating life as a blind or visually impaired individual comes with unique challenges, from accessibility issues to social interactions.
South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind (SAGDA) is a registered non-profit organisation that understands the challenges associated with blindness and low vision.
South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind provides services to those who have visual, physical, or developmental needs through training Guide Dogs, Service Dogs, and Autism Support Dogs, or Orientation and Mobility.
We all know that dogs offer unmatched loyalty and love, lifting our spirits and enriching our lives. They boost mood, reduce stress, and encourage an active lifestyle while providing companionship.
People with vision impairment are challenged daily, but guide dogs transform it. These highly trained companions boost mobility, independence, and confidence for those with visual impairments. Not just pets, they’re dedicated partners helping navigate the world safely.
Our residents at The Somerset Lifestyle and Retirement Village love their furry friends, but they also love to make a difference. On the 7th of December, they organised a fundraiser at our clubhouse to benefit the South African Guide-Dogs Association for the blind.
A 21-piece orchestral swing band, masterfully conducted by Bob Mowday, was organised to entertain our residents by playing swing, jazz, pop, and Latin songs. The band is a group of volunteers who play for the love of it and are happy to donate their time to charitable events.
