Nelson Mandela International Day, also known as Mandela Day, is celebrated every year on July 18. It invites people around the world to spend 67 minutes on community service and helping others, honouring Madiba’s 67 years of dedicated public service. No matter how small your action may seem, Mandela Day is about making the world a better place, just as Nelson Mandela did every day.
This year, the Somerset community eagerly came together, rolled up their sleeves, and truly shone on Mandela Day! Thanks to the amazing support of our residents, including many who lovingly made sandwiches at home, we surpassed our goal and prepared 1,210 sandwiches. These were joyfully delivered to local soup kitchens in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, including Rasta’s Camp, Zweisha, and Riemvasmaak. It was truly uplifting to see so many children celebrating by picking up litter and helping keep their community beautiful.
We also took a moment to visit the local Fire Station to thank our brave firefighters for their dedicated service.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped out. Together, we truly made a difference, one sandwich at a time!
