This year, we hosted our very first “Heritage Day Lunch Event” with our new caterer, Feedem. They were tasked with creating something special for our residents at The Somerset, and true to form, with their signature Feedem flair, they exceeded our expectations. Nadia and her team crafted a truly South African feast.

The main course was a true celebration of South African cuisine, featuring a delightful spread of classic favourites. Guests indulged in perfectly grilled sosaties, succulent boerewors, and delicious braai broodjies, which brought a taste of the traditional braai to our event. Complementing the hearty mains were a variety of flavourful pasta dishes and crisp green salads, offering a refreshing balance to the rich, smoky flavours of the braai.
For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert selection was a true highlight. Feedem delighted us with some quintessentially South African sweet treats, including the ever-popular peppermint crisp tarts, as well as a fun and nostalgic touch with ice cream sandwiches. There were also some creative surprises, like the spiced pumpkin doughnuts, which added a unique and seasonal twist to the dessert selection.
No South African braai would be complete without a “Braai Master,” and Brendan stepped up to the role with enthusiasm and expertise. He ensured that the boerewors was grilled to perfection, bringing out that distinctly South African flavour that everyone looks forward to during a braai. His attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed, and it certainly added to the authenticity of the event.

The day was made even more special by the participation of our residents, who came together to celebrate this year’s Heritage Day with us. The atmosphere was warm and filled with joy as everyone enjoyed the food, company, and festivities that brought our community together.
