Jasper Pieters, the Chairman of the Forum for The Somerset residents and a trustee of the Homeowners Association, and his partner Edna are very happy at The Somerset. Their house is quite unusual as they specifically designed the interior to fit their furniture maximising their personal tastes and the beautiful views of the entire False Bay from the living areas.
Jasper comes from Groblershoop in the Northern Cape but studied in Stellenbosh and earned an honours in Geology going on to work as an exploration geologist for some years before getting into the Ferrochrome and Ferromanganese industries. He managed various plants in Meyerton, Witbank, and finally in Brits where he started a greenfield FerroChrome plant which he commissioned and ran for 14 years. He then consulted in Zimbabwe for a few years before retiring for good.
Edna is a Kwazulu Natal ‘meisie’ growing up on a farm before moving to Piet Retief in her late teens where she stayed for some years before marrying a Mupumulanga farmer. Years later, after moving to Pretoria, her husband passed away. She stayed on in Pretoria where she was to meet a now single Jasper while taking her daily walks. A smitten Jasper made sure to learn her route so they ‘bumped’ into each other, daily. Love blossomed and they became a couple.
Jasper always wanted to come back to the area of his university years. They are recent residents at The Somerset having decided that there is so much more to do as retirees here compared to Pretoria. Whereas they were quite relaxed in Pretoria Edna doesn’t know what happened after moving to The Somerset as they seem to be so busy visiting all the attractions in the area.
Pictured below, is the day that Jasper & Edna were handed the keys to their brand new freehold home here at The Somerset Lifestyle and Retirement Village in Somerset West.
