On March 12th of this year, we published a story about our inspiring residents at The Somerset who are planting seeds of hope. Our community is full of compassionate individuals who actively participate in projects that create a positive impact. They selflessly give back and use their talents and passions to make a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and their efforts serve as a reminder that we all have the power to create positive change in the world.
During the Easter festivities, the residents of The Somerset truly made a difference by spreading joy and kindness to those in need. By collecting and distributing Easter eggs to six Soup Kitchens in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village and one in Allen Boesak Village, they brought smiles to the faces of children who deserve it most. The heartfelt gratitude shown by these children is a reminder of how powerful acts of generosity can be.
The recent storms have caused significant damage to Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
It’s heartbreaking to see the impact they have had on the community. However, it’s a relief to know that the residents of The Somerset came together to help those in need. Extra soup kitchens were set up to make sure everyone had access to warm food. Basic food items like potatoes, maize meal, pumpkin, and soup mix were delivered to the clubhouse to provide sustenance to those affected. Financial contributions and meters of plastic sheeting were also received, which went a long way in helping people fix the water leaks in their homes. In addition, blankets and food parcels were prepared and distributed to those who were hit hard by the storms. It’s heartening to see the community come together during tough times – spreading love and kindness to those who need it most.
Some exciting news! The old jail turned Village Post Office is being transformed into a hub of opportunity and growth. The “Village Collaboration” group has graciously offered Seed of Hope space to empower the community through training and development projects. We can only imagine the impact we can make together! One resident is ready to kickstart a Flower Pot manufacturing project, while another is bringing her expertise as a former Maths Teacher to help children in the village excel in math. This restoration project symbolizes hope and possibility – creating positive change!
“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.” These words from Arthur Ashe Jr. truly resonate with us. One of our residents knitted these beautiful jerseys; using her talents and spreading hope and positivity – making a difference in this community.
At a recent breakfast at Hottentots Holland Church, we were inspired by our residents and church members who are passionate about making a difference. Never underestimate the power of coming together and planting seeds of hope and change in less fortunate communities.
