Somerset West is a charming haven for outdoor enthusiasts, offering breathtaking mountain views, lovely seaside scenery, and lush winelands, all just a quick 40-minute drive from Cape Town. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, there’s something special for everyone, be it hiking, biking, picnicking, or tasting delicious wines. Our residents at The Somerset truly cherish this wonderful lifestyle. After all, who wouldn’t enjoy basking in the warm sunshine and taking in the beautiful surroundings?

At The Somerset, we recognise our residents’ love for outdoor living, but we are equally committed to their well-being.

Skin Cancer Awareness is a current hot topic.
Recently, at the Cape Town Cycle Tour, the largest targeted skin cancer screening of its kind was launched, and for good reason. Skin cancer, a highly preventable and treatable disease, results from chronic sun exposure and can affect anyone, regardless of skin colour, gender, or age.

At the clubhouse, we had the privilege of hosting Dr. Tertius Potgieter, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Busamed Paardevlei Private Hospital, for an informative presentation on skin cancer.

We encourage everyone to be sun smart and educate themselves about the dangers of the sun and its rays.
Skin Cancer Awareness Month in South Africa (often called the #SunSmart campaign) runs annually from December 1 to January 31. Led by CANSA, this period focuses on educating the public on sun safety, preventing high UV exposure, and recognizing early signs of skin cancer.
