As we emerge from our cocoons of the previous two years, many of us are still getting our lives back in order. During this time, most of us have had a lifestyle change one way or another, many having embraced their new lifestyle going forward, with remote working, less commuting and more family time.
In the same way, the retirement industry has over the years embraced lifestyle changes. Gone are the years when you retired, giving up many of the finer things in life, only looking at a retirement village, (more commonly known as an old age home), if you couldn’t cope on your own or for health reasons – frequently choice and decisions being taken out of your hands by family members. How things have changed…
At The Somerset Lifestyle Retirement Village, the entry age is a mere 50 years, the age at which we should all be planning our retirement. Isn’t it wiser to plan when you have a clearer understanding of current trends and fiscal matters? Make choices based on facts rather than emotions, when you are vulnerable due to your needs having changed – maybe from ill health or the loss of a spouse. A good policy is to make these major decisions whilst you are still able.
We all want a space where we can feel comfortable, enjoy life and be amongst like-minded people. “Birds of a feather flock together”. The Somerset epitomises this credo.
The way in which The Somerset stands out from other new retirement villages is very much in its flexibility of planning and building. Our own dedicated team work with you
- from inception and planning,
- through the building process (all homes are built by our highly skilled building team),
- assisting you with your choices of finishes,
- delivering your dream bespoke retirement home specifically built to suit your needs and lifestyle.
- Add to this the excellent facilities, which should be viewed as an extension of your home, there for the use of residents.
Many activities are organised by either the management or interested residents, to engage others in valuable hobbies, interesting talks and social events, often filling the gap that leaving the workforce has left behind. All activities are purely voluntary and if you have no interest in partaking it is entirely up to you. We see many strong friendships emerge between residents participating and meeting new people.
The elegant Lord Somerset Clubhouse with a beautiful lounge, bar and dining facility, is the hub of the village where many functions are held for the residents and their guests. Be it a themed dinner, Happy Hour on a Friday, wine tasting (sponsored by one of the many wine estates in the locality), or a local show brought to The Somerset, the vibe and setting is hard to match.
The Somerset Garden Club has a keen following. Our members love to put their hands in the soil, body in the sun and appreciating nature at its best. Of course making friends, meeting with the old and mingling with the new is an extra bonus!
If gardening isn’t your interest there is always Bridge, Canasta and Mahjong, played regularly in the clubhouse or maybe a game of Boule, our players play with much enthusiasm and gusto!
The social events are always popular – especially the themed dinners. The Greek and Indian-themed evenings were very successful. Being in the heart of the wine country, it goes without saying that our wine tastings are well patronised and it is loads of fun!
If being out in the open is more to your liking, just a walk around the village, along the walking paths around the dam or through the park where there is an abundance of bird life, would enthral any active nature lover.
Many residents are golfers or bowlers and belong to the local clubs which are but a 10-minute drive from The Somerset. Even the sales staff enjoy a bit of fun bowling by participating in an annual business league for non-bowlers at Helderberg Bowling Club, and along with Westacre Homes, the building arm of The Somerset, actively sponsor one of the major golf days at the Somerset West Golf Club where 4 lucky residents also enjoy a sponsored day of fun.
And for something more cerebral, the library, overseen by Dr Marita Burger, has a wonderful range of books of different genre to suit all reading desires.
Top all of this with the delicious meals served daily in the dining room. To think the equivalent of 8 of these 3-course meals are already included in your levy, so you can eat at least eight times a month without paying an extra cent!
We cannot talk of lifestyle without mentioning the wonderful Healthcare Centre on site where your physical and mental wellbeing is cared for in a homely and beautiful environment.
Now ask yourself – “Is this the sort of life you envision in retirement, in a beautiful customised home, in a friendly and caring environment with world-class facilities, good food and healthcare on site, at the press of a button.?”
