Care and wellbeing at The Somerset

We may be under the shadow of COVID-19, but life and love and care goes on

We may be under the shadow of COVID-19, but life and love and care goes on…

During lock-down – how do you physically care for people, how do you effectively communicate with them, how do you demonstrate love and meet emotional needs – whilst not compromising their safety?

Due to the nature of our work, social distancing is not always possible. Caring is a tactile activity and caring for people’s physical needs involves physical touch. Connecting with people emotionally can be difficult when there is a physical distance between you. These are some of the challenges we have been working through at the care centre. We have been busy teaching and reinforcing effective infection prevention and control practices.

Not too much has changed in the last 100 years!

It is great peace of mind living at The Somerset Lifestyle and Retirement Village as our residents have access to food delivery within the village. The residents can order

  • essential groceries,
  • daily meals,
  • take-away freezer friendly meals (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) as well as
  • weekly promotions that are run.

For example: this week we have Boerewors rolls on Tuesday, pancakes on Wednesday, pizza on Thursday and cheesecake on Friday.

On behalf of the MHOA, management and staff, Western Province Caterers and Xone Security we would like to thank our residents for their understanding and support during the lock-down of the past five weeks. This was an extremely challenging exercise and without their co-operation it wouldn’t have been such a smooth operation with the minimum of hiccups.

The Somerset is an elegant haven for over-50s who wish to retire in a tranquil and secure setting. To read more about our beautiful estate, click here.

Having the time of our lives at The Somerset

Here at The Somerset in Somerset West, Feedem knows that “you can dance, you can jive, but everyone will be having the time of their lives.” So, they decided to host an Abba-themed Happy Hour. Our residents dressed up to the nines and they didn’t have to look out for a place to go where they play the right music and getting in the swing, as our very own Clubhouse ticked all the boxes!
