The Somerset residents are sowing seeds of hope

The team at The Somerset Lifestyle and Retirement Village located in Somerset West unanimously agree that the most remarkable aspect of the village is its residents. They are an enthusiastic and compassionate community who live each day with great enthusiasm and participate actively in projects that create a positive impact.

The Somerset residents are dedicated to fostering hope and growth in communities in need. Recently, they embarked on a new initiative to plant literal seeds of hope through the establishment of two vegetable gardens in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.

Fiela Opperman runs 6 soup kitchens and has lived in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village all her life.

Our residents’ aim is to create sustainable sources of nutritious food while also fostering a sense of community engagement and empowerment. By providing access to fresh produce and promoting gardening skills, our residents believe they can make a meaningful impact on the well-being of the residents in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.

The initial plan involves setting up two vegetable gardens as pilot projects, and they are optimistic about their potential for success. They have carefully selected suitable locations and have begun preparing the soil for planting. Additionally, they have been collaborating with local community members to ensure their input and involvement every step of the way.

Should these gardens prove successful, our residents have ambitious plans to expand their efforts further, with the ultimate goal of creating a network of sustainable food sources throughout the village. They are confident that by nurturing these seeds of hope, they can cultivate positive change and resilience within the community of Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
