The Somerset offers choices tailored to your individual preferences with the benefit of a home within a supported community.  Since moving here in October 2018, having had input into the design of our home to meet our unique personal requirements, we have found a place where our minds are at ease.

The practicality of downsizing from a large family home into a quality build with high-end finishes and pristine workmanship, surrounded by all our personal comforts in a spacious setting, has made the transition a very comfortable one. We have our privacy, but at the same time there are opportunities for socialising, if we so choose. A recently implemented bus service facilitating regular excursions has been introduced on a reservation basis.

The Clubhouse offers a meeting hub with a variety of services, including a small conference centre which can be used for private functions. TV, daily newspapers, Wi-Fi with optic fibre, means we are well connected. There is a small library with comfortable seating. A bar, coffee shop and restaurant are where a selection of food and drinks are available at different times during the day. If we wish to invite friends and family, they are welcome. The produce is fresh and the menus offer tasty selections. A home delivery service on a pre-order basis is also available. The staff are warm and friendly, often going the extra mile in their willingness to help. Other amenities include a gym and an intimate chapel with impressive stained-glass windows.

Pavements and paths suitable for wheelchair access make the outdoors accessible to all. Extensive gardens, beautifully landscaped with a variety trees, shrubs and plants offer a tranquil outdoor space with seating to appreciate them at leisure. Our only challenge is “The Cape Doctor” who never fails to try and blow us away!

The reassurance of qualified care support is available 24/7 with call buttons at our bedsides should we need to use them. The Frail Care Centre, with 19 rooms will be fully operational in February 2020.

The Gate House offers 24-hour security, a response unit and a default receptions service with telephone access to all homes.

We have steadily settled into our new lifestyle and would strongly recommend this experience which has eased the retirement transition we all come to face, offering us comfort in the knowledge that our health and well-being is The Somerset’s priority.
