On January 7th, one of our residents, Marita Burger, wrote an article titled ‘Unlocking the Power of a Gracious Soul.’ In her article, Marita explains that a gracious soul embodies kindness and elegance in interactions with others, maintaining grace and composure even in stressful situations while promoting harmony and goodwill in relationships and surroundings.
We couldn’t agree more, but we also want to add that at The Somerset, our residents are generous, kind, and willing to share their resources and time with others. They show compassion and are not driven by the expectation of a return for their actions.
Driven by a desire to make a difference and plant seeds of hope, our residents united and recently organised a fundraiser to support the Sir Lowry’s Pass Village community. The funds will be allocated for future vegetable gardens, advancing their mission to nurture and sustain the vulnerable community of Sir Lowry’s Pass Village.
65 residents attended the fundraiser, which took the form of an auction at The Lord Somerset Clubhouse. Special thanks to our master auctioneers, Marius and Hester Kritzinger.

Our Guest Speaker at the fundraiser was the renowned Mural Artist Charlie Vitorri.

Charlie Vettori previously guided our residents on a tour of the stunning wall art in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village. She is also training two future guides. Charlie mentored several talented local artists to support the vision of transforming Sir Lowry’s Pass Village into a vibrant tourist destination. There are hopes of reviving the Grabouw train route from Cape Town, with a planned stop at the village station to foster small business development.

The fundraiser was a great success. 64 Residents attended, and Feedem helped make this event one to remember.
